GREENSHAW LEARNING TRUST’S SCHOOLS SOAR TO SUCCESS
Yate Academy in Yate, South Gloucestershire is now ranked 41 out of 6,489 schools in England, and is the second highest performing school in the South West region. As part of the data released, schools across the country are measured by a Progress 8 score.[1] Yate Academy has achieved a Progress 8 score of +1.01, resulting in the school’s students achieving over a grade higher in each subject, compared to similar pupils nationally.
In eighteen months, since Henley Bank High School in Brockworth, Gloucester joined the Greenshaw Learning Trust their Progress 8 score has improved from -0.85 in 2017 to +0.67 in 2019, with nearly 70% of students achieving a Grade 4 or higher in English and Maths. Henley Bank High School is now in the top seven schools in Gloucestershire and is the second highest performing non selective secondary school in the county.
Five Acres High School in Coleford, the Forest of Dean joined the Greenshaw Learning Trust on 1 September 2017. In that time the school’s Progress 8 score has risen from -0.3 in 2017 to +0.66 in 2019 and it is now the highest performing school in the Forest of Dean. Five Acres High School also achieved a Progress 8 Score of +0.52 for students from disadvantaged backgrounds; highlighting the school’s inclusivity and desire for all children to succeed regardless of background. Five Acres is now the eight highest performing school in Gloucestershire, out of 38 schools, including grammar and selective schools.

Holmleigh Park High School in Tuffley, Gloucester and Blaise High School in Bristol joined the Greenshaw Learning Trust after the Key Stage 4 examinations had been completed and it is expected that both schools will follow similar improvement journeys.

The Progress 8 score shows how well pupils of all abilities have progressed, compared to pupils with similar academic starting points in other schools. A school’s Progress 8 score is usually between -1 and +1 and a score of +1 means that pupils in that school are achieving one grade higher in each qualification than other similar pupils nationally.
